Grandma Paintings

This is a series of paintings of my grandmother, Sonia Segoda Dressner (1921 - 2020), “The One and Only,” before she died at 99 years old. Until the end of her life, grandma lived in an apartment upstairs from me in New York City. An actress and violinist, grandma’s mischievous personality and shapeshifting expressions define this series of portraits. Despite some memory loss during the end of her life, grandma and I had a straight line of communication through gestures and glances, and she was my favorite muse.
